NEW Class: Ashtanga Basics Thursday 7:15PM
Ashtanga Basic – Build the Foundation
Perfect for beginners and those looking to revisit the fundamentals, our Ashtanga Basic class offers a supportive introduction to the traditional Ashtanga Yoga method. In this guided class, we explore the key postures of the Primary Series with a focus on breath, alignment, and steady movement.
You’ll learn the foundational elements of the practice—sun salutations, standing poses, seated postures, and finishing sequence—at a manageable pace. Some postures may be workshopped and explained in depth, other times we flow through the sequence posture by posture. Emphasis is placed on connecting movement with breath (vinyasa), and building strength and flexibility safely over time.
Whether you’re new to Ashtanga or returning after a break, this class will help you establish a solid base for further practice. No prior experience required. All levels welcome.

6 weeks Mysore Intro w/Kirsten
Wednesday 19:00-20:00
7th January 2026 11th Feb
This course will prepare you for a long term Ashtanga Mysore Style practice, and to join our whole Mysore program. Don't worry if you don't what "Mysore style" is! We will explain this during the course...
Within this dedicated Beginners setting, over the 6 weeks, you will learn the foundational steps of how to build an Ashtanga Vinyasa practice that it appropriate for you. Not merely learning the sequence of postures (asana), but delving into the alignment, breathing (pranayama), gaze points (drishti) and energetic locks (bandha), which give the Ashtanga practice it’s therapeutic potency. Over the course of the 6 weeks you will be solely introduced to memorising and learning parts of the practice so that you can confidently move towards, supported "Mysore style" practices.
Join Kirsten Waugh our Evening Mysore teacher for this course. This course is suitable for brand new beginners or a student who has not practiced Mysore style of Ashtanga yoga before. It is for all levels, bodies, ability, ages, sizes and genders.

Thursday 19:15-20:15
15th Jan- 26 Feb
A 6-week introductory course for complete beginners, those keen to review the beginning steps of the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga practice.
We will explore the foundations of the dynamic Ashtanga Vinyasa-based styles of āsana practice in a friendly, low-pressure beginners environment. All bodies welcome -- poses and sequences will be taught with variations, options and modifications, with the attitude that there is no one right way for a pose to be or look.
We will be exploring various areas of what makes up a yoga practice- including breath-work, movement/postures, philosophy, mental steadiness and beyond.
This course is perfect for anyone who is interested in giving yoga a try but hasn't known where to start (start here!), who might have thought that yoga wasn't for them (it is, really!), or might have been unsure about joining other classes at the studio.
You will find this course even more geared towards total beginners than the Mysore Style 6 week Course (also beginner friendly).
This 6 week course is £60. (Students email us a photo of your student ID and we will send over a 15% discount code). We have mats/props, just come in clothes you are happy to move in.

“ I recently completed the beginners Ashtanga yoga course with Kirsten and couldn’t recommend it more. The pace of the course was spot on, Kirsten created a really supportive environment where each week built naturally on the last. I always felt comfortable asking questions and taking my time to learn.
Thanks to this solid introduction, I felt confident enough to join the Mysore-style sessions. Two months in, I’m now attending three times a week and loving the routine of developing my own practice at my own pace.
Mysore practice is both grounding and challenging. I’ve learned it’s not just about getting the posture ‘right,’ but about being present and in tune with my body and breath.
The instructors – Kirsten, Emma, and Vanessa – have all been incredibly supportive, observant, and welcoming. Each brings a slightly different energy, which has really helped me grow in different ways.
If you’re curious about Ashtanga but unsure where to start, I highly recommend the beginners course. For me, Ashtanga Yoga Edinburgh is calm, friendly, and inclusive.”
